Hi, I’m Caroline and I’m trying to help raise funds for my friend Hadeel Abu Jiab and her family in Gaza.

Hadeel is 27 years old, a parent, and a university graduate who had started a skin care company before the fighting began in October. Her husband greatly supported her business venture, and it was a reliable source of income. When the fighting began, she lost not only her business, but also her father and husband. Her daughter, Almas, witnessed the death of her father and has since suffered mentally and emotionally, and involuntarily wets herself out of fear and shock.

Hadeel is, in addition to being a single parent to her daughter, also raising two nieces who have become orphaned. Her mother was injured and needs medical care; her brother was scheduled to have surgery before October, but now cannot get the care he needs, either. Hadeel and her family have been displaced 14 times, must live in a makeshift tent, and need funds for daily life. On top of things like food and shelter, the children have had skin infections due to lack of clean water that require medications, and Almas needs diapers for her incontinence. They are hoping to save enough to cross the border when possible. All money raised will be going to daily necessities and saving for getting out of Gaza.

UPDATE AS OF 11/17/2024:

Hadeel’s sister has given birth to a beautiful baby boy, but she has not been able to produce breast milk due to lack of nutrients as well as stress. They now must purchase milk/formula and diapers for this sweet baby.

Hadeel and her family were out looking for warmer clothes a few weeks ago and a car was targeted in the street near them. Her little brother was hit by shrapnel and thrown through the air. At the time he had a bruise by his eye but family was told that he was alright. However, he has since started bleeding internally. It is urgent that they get him the help that he needs, which most likely involves being evacuated.

Hello, friends. One of you asked how Mohammed is doing and I wanted to post the update Hadeel gave. She really appreciates when you all think of her and her family, so thank you.

“Mohammed is suffering from dehydration. I am trying to compensate for what his body has lost, but everything is expensive. And my last nephew, Yazan, went to ask for American aid because we could not provide flour because it is very expensive, and the donations I receive are barely enough for milk, diapers, medicine, some water and food that is not enough for us, and the Americans and the Israelis shot him in the eyes and amputated his eye, and the other one does not see with it, he became blind when he was only 13 years old

We are trying to get him out for treatment, but it is very difficult. He has completely lost his sight.”

I’ve attached a picture of Yazan.

Again, thank you all for caring about Hadeel and her family and continuing to support her in every way you have been, whether it’s financially, sharing her campaign, or asking how she is and helping them know they aren’t alone. It all makes a huge difference for their family.

Hello, friends. Hadeel has asked me to put together an update and I am trying to provide as much detail as possible.

Over the last several months, and especially in the last few weeks, it has become increasingly difficult for her to find food. She and her family have been going for days without having anything to eat and they are all, particularly the children, suffering from dehydration. Hadeel has been so exhausted on some days that she cannot stand.

They were told several weeks ago to evacuate their area, but they did not have the money or resources to do so. Thus, they have also had to deal with increased bombings. The children cannot stop crying between fear and hunger. I’ve attached a video of her nephew Mohammed who was born and probably last year and who is suffering now from malnutrition.

When there is food available, it is extremely expensive. Current prices mean that a pitiful meal for one person can easily cost $200. Her family also still rely on other necessities such as diapers, and diapers are ~$10 EACH (this is about $50/day per child solely on diapers if they are available at all).

Because of the scarcity of food and the dire nature of her family’s situation, Hadeel went to an aid site this week and barely made it out alive. She had to run for 3km while people were being shot around her. She managed to get some flour, but it will not last long at all, probably only two days. This was an extremely dangerous spot for Hadeel to be in and we don’t want her to have to put herself in that situation again.

On top of the outrageous prices of everything in Gaza, Hadeel has to deal with fees when accepting money from outside of the country. We have been doing our very best to get funds to her in the most affordable and frugal ways possible, but no matter what we do there is always a transfer fee of some kind. We cannot thank you all enough for your generosity and continuous support for her family. Every little bit helps.

Please continue to share the link when you are able. If any of you are in a congregation or club and willing to bring the idea of “adopting” her family to raise funds for her on a regular basis, this could be extremely helpful to her. More and more people seem to be opening their eyes to what is going on and even though it can feel scary to bring it up when Gaza has been a “complicated matter” to some people, the worst they can do is say “no.”

Thank you, so much, again for being there for her.

I received this message with photos from Hadeel about her niece Samira, who has had eye issues for a long time now (before October 7th, 2023). Samira’s parents were killed several
